Tilden, Again

Sweet Autumn Clematis growing over the broad leaf evergreen shrub thicket I can't seem to identify. Some kind of bay or laurel -its berries blue-gray, hard and smell somewhat like juniper berries.

This on my return to Fort Tilden, via bus.

  1. Myrica pensylvanica? Northern bayberry, I think?

  2. Having grown up around this plant, it just slipped under my "fully notice" radar. I went to a summer camp when I was 8 called Camp Bayberry.

I believe you are right. I wish I had prizes to give away.

If I do not respond to your comment right away, it is only because I am busy pulling out buckthorn, creeping charlie, and garlic mustard...
